We live by faith. Think about it. You get up to go about your day with faith that it is not your last day on earth. You pray to God with faith that He will hear and answer you. Every action is made in faith. If you didn’t have faith, you wouldn’t have bothered going through with it. Right? But sometimes our faith can be challenged.
“Many of us struggle with fear, loneliness, worthiness, doubt, depression, anxiety, lack, sicknesses and a host of other problems.”
In this book, Mandisa details the key principles to know regarding faith, so that we always conquer. The first thing Mandisa introduces to us is the importance of knowing what faith actually is:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
One’s life journey can be difficult by virtue of what faith is, but in chapter 3 we are reminded of the source of faith:
“So faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of God” – Romans 10:17
“The more we hear through the Word of God, the firmer our faith will become and grow”, says Mandisa.
After sharing with us what faith is and its source, Mandisa covers in the next chapters things that challenge our faith: lack of action, doubt, testing of our faith, patience. Here, Mandisa addresses these challenges with biblical extracts in the form of stories of characters in the Bible who tackled these challenges, including helpful action lists for practical ways to develop and entrench your faith.
There are also other blessings we receive through faith that we tend to overlook, blessings that are evident in the Bible. These are blessings that are only obtained through faith, and Mandisa details them according to scripture: peace, justification, eternal life, Christ dwelling in us, becoming children of God, salvation, becoming overcomers. All of these are received through faith.
And what better way to end the book than a chapter that assures you victory! Mandisa ends the book with weapons to defeat stumbling blocks that come against gaining faith.
“Sometimes, we are so clouded by our circumstances that we question and doubt God on what He has spoken to us regarding our future, purpose and existence. More times than not, we tune out of faith and entertain the chaos in our minds.”
These weapons assure us to be victorious regardless of the stumbling blocks. The onus is on us to act on them.
