Authentic. Transparent. Honest. Real.
Those words are enough to describe what you can expect when reading this book.
A true story, in fact real life with real situations. Faith shares her whole life: how it went from suffocating because of the choices she made, to finally breaking free to live in the freedom that a voice has been calling her to.
Married at 21 and a mother of an innocent boy who was, unfortunately, a constant reminder of her bad choices. Faith acknowledges her shortcomings as a mother, but most importantly acknowledges how she failed to look after herself. Here’s the thing: when you take care of yourself, you are able to take better care of the other parties in the role you play: as a mother and a wife. But that was not the case for Faith.
“I was so down that I had no reason to live. I had no reason to smile. I had no reason to wake up. I had no reason to continue. All I wanted to do was to stay indoors and in bed. I hated myself. I could not even look at myself in the mirror, I could not see any reason for anything. I started regretting everything about my existence.”
Despite having been raised in a family who firmly believed in Christ Jesus, Faith found herself forgetting who she was – a child of the living God. The unfortunate thing was living for someone else who couldn’t have cared any less about her than he already did. What’s more, even the very people that seemed close to her were not as close as she thought they were.
Faith finally broke out of betrayal and found herself again. Through her experiences, she finally realised the importance of loving herself: loving herself enough to not tolerate what belittles her, what devalues her. She started to love herself: breaking out of misery, out of being misused, breaking out of the mentality that she is nothing without the toxic person she made a vow before God to spend life with.
“Enough is enough! The best is you! You are going to give yourself the best. Not good, not better, but the best. You are going to come out of that toxic relationship now!”
What I love about this book is that Faith speaks from her own experience. She takes you through all the emotions and circumstances, to the point where she literally helps you come out of the pit you are in. She shows you that if she did it, so can you, because we all know that we are never alone. We may feel alone, a situation may seem impossible, but ultimately we ought to know that God is the helping hand to pull you out and find yourself again. He is the helping hand to get yourself to your breakthrough – living life free from the bad choices and consequences thereof.
